Bi-monthly update going out to over 1575 subscribers

Dear members and supporters,

In our campaign against real-fur sporrans we've been putting together a list of retailers and makers who are entirely fur-free. See http://www.edinburghfurfreecity.co.uk/furfree.php  Along with building this list, our next step is to get this information to consumers to help them source ethical fake-fur sporrans and shop with confidence.

Sporrans are often used in traditional ceremonies – and we need your help to raise awareness at wedding fairs. Do you think you can leaflet at a wedding fair taking place in your area and help raise awareness? Its crucial to saving the lives of the animals that are slaughtered for their fur. To check if there's a fair taking place in your area, visit http://scottishweddingdirectory.co.uk/index/wedding-fairs-regions and then email us info@edinburghfurfreecity.co.uk and we'd send you flyers and connect you with others locally. Helping animals is that simple!

In Edinburgh, stalls, leaflet drops in neighborhoods and action at wedding fairs continue. We next meet on the 2nd March, 7pm at Hendersons. There’s a lot going on - and your support is much appreciated. Get involved actively, support our work financially and spread awareness. Can you help? Emails to info@ethicalvoiceforanimals.org.uk

The International Edinburgh Science Festival revealed its programme last week – it includes the autopsy of a cow at Edinburgh Zoo. Its a reckless waste of life, little to do with science. We’ve put together a simple e-action for you to take – find out more here http://ethicalvoiceforanimals.org.uk/shownotice.php?articleid=29

The 'Nexxt Big Thing in Integrative Mammalian Biology' will be held on 30th March at Glasgow University to "showcase" techniques and ideas for continued animal experimentation. Angus Macmillian explains why Saving Scotland’s Red Squirrels (SSRS) claim that their grey squirrel cull is instrumental in red squirrels returning to Cults, Countesswells and Bieldside, is entirely baseless. http://ethicalvoiceforanimals.org.uk/shownotice.php?articleid=31

Animal cruelty in Scotland: Badger-baiting in Glasgow is on the rise - sick gangs send terriers to attack badgers in their underground setts, and dig through the tunnel roof to expose the fight. Read more here http://ethicalvoiceforanimals.org.uk/shownotice.php?articleid=25 And a cancer-stricken dog was abandoned by his companion - because he didnt know what to do with the sick dog. The dog was left tethered to a post in Trinity, Edinburgh. Apathetic. Read more http://ethicalvoiceforanimals.org.uk/shownotice.php?articleid=28

A new Bill was recently brought forward to the Parliament to tackle the problem of irresponsible dog owners in Scotland. Presently, the Dangerous Dogs Act targets particular breeds and not individual dogs and their owners - that approach was flawed. The new Control of Dogs Bill would allow councils to impose restrictions on owners who fail to control their pets. Read more here http://www.ethicalvoiceforanimals.org.uk/shownotice.php?articleid=24

£8m public money - in Scotland - used to develop a unique breed for genetically modified mice.  The money could have been much better spent on reliable, modern and scientific techniques which did not involve the use of GM mice - or any animals. Read more about it here http://ethicalvoiceforanimals.org.uk/shownotice.php?articleid=30

After lots of public money spent and debate over what to do with the hedgehogs that were possibly affecting wading birds in the islands - we are still no where. The culling was never any use, and now the Scottish National Heritage does not want to continue their trapping project either. A report (written by the SNH staff) says there are possibly other variables affecting the wader numbers. Read more about it here http://ethicalvoiceforanimals.org.uk/shownotice.php?articleid=33

To the animals we pledge, we hear your cries and we are coming,

See you tomorrow,

Eva
