Our campaign has finally borne fruit! Marina Rinaldi's Edinburgh store, mailed us on the 12th of February agreeing to remove all fur and not sell any in the future. From their email - '...removed all fur items and do not intend to sell them in the Edinburgh store in future.' Thanks to all for coming to demos and writing to them! If you'd like to send them a response encouraging and congratulating them for making an ethical choice, please email rinaldi@edinburghfurfreecity.co.uk and we will collate all responses and send them on.

The last 4 months - since November, when we started - have just flown by. Now over 200 supporters, we've given out nearly 4000 leaflets as a part of our regular protests. Thanks to all - for coming to demos, leafleting, holding stalls, helping create materials, organizing events, writing to shops, signing petitions, and for giving the 45 million animals skinned for their fur a voice - yours.

Update on Pride of Scotland: We've uncovered that majority of the Pride of Scotland stock is supplied by the notorious Gold Brothers. Gold Brothers are known as the 'Kings of Tartan tat', with most of their stock coming from Asia - where there is little or no Government control or legislation for animal welfare. Accused of 'cultural rape', interestingly the unethical company was also recently found in possession of replica guns - see http://news.scotsman.com/scotland?articleid=3785381

Regular Saturday protests continue and we will also be leafleting outside their shop every Thursday after 5pm. Email the manager of the Pride of Scotland asking him to stop selling fur, if you havent already. Spare 30 seconds to sign here and take online action - every email matters http://www.edinburghfurfreecity.co.uk/emailpos.php

Against the Chinese Fur Trade: Our protest against the Chinese Fur Trade on the 13th of February went well. Lots of honking in support from passing cars and lots of interest. However, no one from the Chinese Consulate came out to speak. We've been phoning them every day since the 13th but we still haven't been able to get a comment. We will keep at it. See pictures here http://www.edinburghfurfreecity.co.uk/pictures/chineseconsulate13feb08/

News yesterday morning that First Minister Alex Salmond would be launching the 'China Now in Scotland' programme at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh later in the day. In the little time we had, we organized a protest and sent a letter to the First Minister, Minister Counsellor of Chinese Embassy and the Patron for China Now in Scotland amongst others, urging the Scottish Government to take a strong stand against the lack of legislation governing animal welfare in China. Copies of the letter were also given to everyone attending the launch as they went in. The letter we sent is available here http://www.edinburghfurfreecity.co.uk/21febchinainscotland.php. Many thanks to all who came for the protest at such short notice!

In the Borders: 1World Scotland in Glasgow, have recently set up a new branch down in the Borders. Donna Easton is coordinating campaigns for that area, and we wish her and the 1WS team all the very best. They are presently recruiting members, so if you know of people in that area who'd be interested, please pass this on and email oneworldscotland@hotmail.com for details.
Animal Protection Force, who have been campaigning against hunting down in the Borders are also looking for new members. Please email apfuk@cyber-rights.net if you are interested.

A couple of things in the pipeline - a student run fashion show in Edinburgh next week, which we will attend to make our presence felt and raise awareness. Event organised by Waterside Action Group in Ayrshire in May - we are hoping to participate. Also organizing stalls during the Edinburgh World Justice Festival. We will post details of each event nearer the time. If you can help organizing any, get in touch!

There is still a lot to be done - if you can help out at stalls, help making banners, placards, designing leaflets, please reply and let us know. We are also now planning to make animal costumes - if you have materials which you think could be used to make our demos more effective or would like to make a donation to help cover costs, please do drop us an email. info@edinburghfurfreecity.co.uk
