Candlelight Vigil, 10th December
National Candlelight vigil outside the Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh, 10th December, 2007
Celebrating the International Animal Rights Day, 1WorldScotland and Edinburgh Fur-Free City organised a national candlelight vigil outside the Scottish Parliament starting at 4.30pm on the 10th of December.
Activists and campaigners came from Glasgow and from as far as down in the Borders. Encouraging messages after the vigil - "Cant wait until the next demo!" - "We'll show them we aren't going away" - that's what we hoped for, and the positive energy was excellent.
It takes a lot more than just warm clothes to demonstrate the importance of animal rights and to protest against the disrespect and the torture animals are subjected to - many thanks to all who came. A member brought beautiful pictures of her bunny, it was lovely to see such support! Robin Harper, MSP came and congratulated us for our work, we hope more MSP's will support the campaign. We are also told the Gin Goblins, performing in Edinburgh on the day, mentioned it was the International AR Day and that we were outside the Scottish Parliament and dedicated a song to us!
Read more about the Universal Declaration of Animal Rights, and the campaign that Uncaged launched in 1997. Thousands of activists all over the world stand united on this day calling for animals right to a life without deliberate pain, suffering and torture.
We got some press coverage as well - radio interview here. We will be updating this page with a brief video interview and pictures of the vigil as well.
